What we do

At Perlego, we are working hard to make education accessible to all. In this digital age, we believe that anyone should be able to learn anything at any time. Knowledge should be more accessible, not locked behind sky-high price tags.

Over the past 9 years, our goal has been to support students across the UK & Europe to access quality books. Our ambition is to expand our support to students globally, specifically looking at the US, and build a product that goes beyond the book, a platform that helps students study smarter and more effectively.

What we are looking for

A Software Engineer with experience in Typescript, React, Node.js & AWS. We organise ourselves into cross-functional squads, with each squad working together on a common goal. You'll be joining our Platform Experience squad with a mission to help our users find and use the best learning materials, consisting of an Engineering Manger, Software Engineers, QA Engineer & Product Manager.

What you’ll do

  • You will work in a self-organising team in our product ecosystem providing technical development skills (React/Node/AWS) within the squad, co-solutioning and getting hands-on implementing the solutions to help your squad achieve it's goal.
  • You will be developing and maintaining in-depth technical knowledge of our domain, particularly around dealing with (semantic) search, book reading, and collaboration tooling, both in a web and mobile application environment.
  • You will contribute to the design and code base of distributed AWS cloud systems, Serverless Node.js application back-ends and React web application front-ends.
  • Within your squad you'll bring these solutions to life, writing high-quality code utilising test-driven development (Jest / Playwright), continuous integration (Github Actions) and code review (GitHub).
  • Partner with other engineering teams, product managers, and designers to align on requirements and deliver high-quality features that enhance our learning and researching experience.
  • You and your cross-functional squad will look after application features from inception to production working with customers and business stakeholders to bring them to life and support them in production.

Requirements

It’s the perfect role for you if you have:

  • 2+ years of commercial experience as a software engineer.
  • Experience in implementing performant, high quality web applications using Typescript, React, Node.js, and have experience with accessibility features.
  • A working understanding of architectural practices including: Microservices, REST, object-oriented & functional programming, relational database design and NOSQL databases.
  • Strong experience working with Cloud computing providers (AWS).
  • Strong experience with modern Javascript, development techniques and tooling.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment with CI/CD.
  • Experience in participating in product discovery and sharing ideation thoughts.
  • A working understanding of web security principles (OWASP) and deployment.
  • Experience working with non-technical stakeholders and the ability to boil down complex technical problems and make them easy to understand.

⭐️ It’s a plus if you have:

  • A degree in a computing related subject.
  • Experience in a startup environment.
  • Experience with React Native.
  • Have a general interest in books, reading and always learning new things!

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
