FISKARS

Industrial Design Intern

Summer 2027

Middleton, WI | Hybrid

At Fiskars, we believe that thoughtfully designed products can make everyday life easier, more enjoyable, and more meaningful. For more than 375 years, Fiskars has been creating products that bring together function, innovation, and thoughtful design.

We’re looking for an Industrial Design Intern to join our team in Middleton, Wisconsin, and gain hands-on experience bringing ideas from early concepts to products that people use every day.

About the Internship

As an Industrial Design Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced designers and cross-functional partners to explore ideas, solve problems, and help shape the next generation of Fiskars products.

This is an opportunity to contribute to real projects while learning how industrial design works within a global consumer products organization. You’ll be involved in different stages of the design process—from research and ideation to sketching, visualization, prototyping, and presenting.

You’ll have the opportunity to build your portfolio, learn from experienced designers, and see how great ideas evolve into products.

What You’ll Do

  • Support research, trend exploration, and inspiration gathering to help inform new product opportunities.
  • Participate in brainstorming, problem framing, and concept development.
  • Create sketches, digital renderings, and visual concepts to communicate ideas.
  • Assist with physical and digital mock-ups, models, and prototypes.
  • Help prepare presentations and design stories to communicate concepts and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with industrial designers, engineers, product teams, and other partners to understand how designs move toward production.
  • Explore form, function, usability, ergonomics, and aesthetics in product design.
  • Support designs that reflect the Fiskars DNA and support a user-centered design approach.
  • Participate in design reviews, learn from feedback, and contribute to a defined summer design project or challenge.

What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your creativity, design thinking, and ability to develop ideas.
  • Foundational skills in sketching, visualization, and communicating design concepts.
  • Experience or coursework using software Adobe Creative Suite and SolidWorks
  • Curiosity about how people interact with products and an interest in form, function, usability, and aesthetics.
  • A willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, experiment,
  • and learn.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working with others.
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining an open and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Most importantly, a passion for design, creativity, and making ideas real.

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience working on real Fiskars consumer product projects.
  • Mentorship and guidance from experienced industrial designers.
  • Exposure to the full product design and development process.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with engineering, product development, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Portfolio-building experience and real-world design work you can take with you.
  • A deeper understanding of how design, consumers, brand, and business come together to create successful products.

Why Fiskars?

At Fiskars, we believe great design starts with curiosity. We ask questions, challenge assumptions, experiment with new ideas, and look for better ways to solve everyday problems.

If you’re excited about industrial design and want to learn by doing—while contributing to products that make a difference in people’s everyday lives—we’d love to meet you.

Bring your ideas. Bring your curiosity. Help shape what’s next at Fiskars.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
