The posting

We are recruiting a Senior Battery Cell Modeling Engineer (M/F) on behalf of our client, a pioneering French DeepTech startup developing next-generation sodium-ion energy storage technologies. As the company enters a phase of strong growth and prepares for industrialization, it is strengthening its Product Department and is looking for an experienced professional who will play a key role in the development of future generations of battery cells through electrothermal modeling and numerical simulation.

Position

Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer, you will contribute to the development of future generations of sodium-ion cells by developing innovative electrothermal models capable of predicting cell behavior before manufacturing. Your work will help guide design decisions, optimize the electrical and thermal performance of the cells, and accelerate their development.

Within the Product Department, you will work in a high-level R&D environment alongside testing, data, and product development teams, as well as leading academic and industrial partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, calibrating, and validating electrothermal and battery cell ageing models.
  • Developing new modeling approaches adapted to next-generation battery technologies, particularly sodium-ion cells.
  • Correlating simulation results with experimental data in order to improve the accuracy and robustness of the models.
  • Assessing the impact of design choices (architecture, geometry, components, etc.) on the electrical and thermal performance of the cells.
  • Collaborating with the testing teams to define model validation protocols.
  • Participating in innovation projects in collaboration with academic and industrial partners.
  • Documenting modeling methodologies and contributing to the sharing of technical knowledge.
  • Contributing to the company's intellectual property by developing innovations that may lead to patent applications.

The position is based near Amiens (Hauts-de-France) on a permanent contract (CDI). This is a 100% on-site position, working closely with the R&D teams, fostering strong collaboration with experts and senior management.

Profile

You hold a higher education degree (Engineering degree, Master's degree or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or an equivalent discipline. You have significant experience in a similar role, with recognized expertise in the electrothermal modeling of battery cells.

You have a strong command of numerical simulation methods applied to battery cells, as well as tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, COMSOL Multiphysics, or equivalent software. You are capable of developing, calibrating, and validating models based on experimental data in order to predict cell behavior and support design decisions.

You possess a solid understanding of battery cell design and the impact that design choices have on their electrical and thermal performance.

Ideally, you have gained this experience within a battery cell manufacturer, a battery systems integrator, or an automotive manufacturer. Experience with sodium-ion or lithium-ion technologies would be considered an asset.

You are rigorous, autonomous, and possess excellent analytical skills. You enjoy solving complex scientific challenges and thrive in an environment combining scientific excellence with industrial pragmatism. Curious and proactive, you enjoy developing innovative solutions and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

A professional level of English is essential in order to work within this international environment.

Finally, joining this DeepTech startup means contributing to the development of an innovative sodium-ion technology and participating in the design of future generations of battery cells. You will develop state-of-the-art electrothermal models for an emerging technology within a stimulating scientific environment, working closely with leading experts as well as renowned academic and industrial partners. You will also have the opportunity to join an ambitious company aiming to become a European reference in sodium-ion technology.

If you are looking to take on this challenge and contribute to the development of a technology that will support the energy transition, please send us your application (CV, cover letter, and salary expectations) without delay.

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
