Job Description

Kia ora!

Bring your engineering expertise to Air New Zealand and help keep our aircraft flying safely and reliably, while building specialist skills in a world-class aviation environment.

We're looking for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer to join our Components & Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) team in Christchurch. If you enjoy hands-on technical challenges, solving complex problems and seeing the impact of your work, this is an opportunity to take your engineering career further.

At Air New Zealand, we connect people and whānau across Aotearoa and the world. Behind every journey is a dedicated engineering team keeping our aircraft safe, reliable and ready to fly. Our Components & APU team plays a vital role in this, delivering specialist maintenance services that support our airline and third-party customers.

You'll join a collaborative, safety-focused workshop where your technical expertise, fresh thinking and commitment to quality will make a real difference.

How you'll make an impact

  • Deliver high-quality component and APU maintenance, ensuring every job meets safety, technical and regulatory standards
  • Help achieve on-time performance (OTP) and turnaround time (TAT) targets, keeping aircraft and customer operations moving
  • Diagnose technical issues and apply practical solutions to deliver safe, reliable maintenance outcomes
  • Collaborate with colleagues across engineering and operational teams to support efficient workshop performance
  • Champion safe working practices and maintain compliance with our Safety Management System
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, applying continuous improvement and 5S principles to enhance quality and efficiency.

What you'll bring

  • A recognised Aircraft Maintenance Engineer qualification, or equivalent relevant qualifications and experience
  • Experience working with gas turbines, mechanical systems or component maintenance would be an advantage
  • A sound understanding of aircraft systems and the importance of working to technical and regulatory standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality workmanship
  • The ability to work collaboratively, communicate clearly and manage competing priorities
  • A proactive approach to safety, continuous improvement and delivering great customer outcomes.

If you bring most of this experience, along with transferable skills and the drive to grow, we'd love to hear from you.

Why join Air New Zealand?

We want our people to live their best lives, with benefits and opportunities that support their careers and life outside work.

  • Enjoy discounted flights for you and your whānau, helping you explore more of Aotearoa and the world
  • Grow your engineering expertise through hands-on learning, specialist technical exposure and development opportunities
  • Access FlexiLeave, giving you the option to purchase up to four additional weeks of leave each year
  • Enjoy a range of discounts on hotels, activities, retail and other everyday essentials
  • Access wellbeing support and employee healthcare options to help you look after yourself and your whānau.

Your journey starts here

This Christchurch-based, day-shift workshop opportunity offers the chance to develop valuable specialist engineering skills while contributing to the reliability of an iconic New Zealand airline.

If you're ready to put your technical expertise to work, take on new challenges and build your future in aviation, we'd love to hear from you.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
