Job Description

Kia ora!

Help shape the decisions that drive Air New Zealand's future, connecting financial performance, strategic investment and enterprise-wide delivery.

At Air New Zealand, we're focused on building a strong, sustainable and future-fit airline. Behind every strategic investment and business decision is an opportunity to create value for our customers, our people and our business.

We're looking for a commercially minded professional who combines strong financial analysis with investment governance and portfolio performance expertise. You'll work collaboratively with business leaders and teams across Air New Zealand, providing commercial insights, constructive advice and independent perspectives to strengthen investment decisions and help ensure our strategic investments deliver the outcomes and value expected

This is more than a traditional finance role. You'll work at the heart of investments and transformation oversight, providing a clear view of how our strategic initiatives and investments are performing, where value is being realised and where we can improve. You'll have the opportunity to influence and challenge investment decisions, strengthen financial governance and help ensure our resources are focused on the initiatives that matter most.

How you'll make an impact

  • Partner with senior leaders to provide commercial advice, financial insights and constructive challenges that support robust investment and strategic decision-making.
  • Drive visibility of enterprise portfolio performance, monitoring investment costs, delivery progress, risks and benefits to identify emerging issues and opportunities to improve outcomes.
  • Support the development and independent assessment of business cases, ensuring financial assumptions, strategic alignment and investment recommendations are robust and commercially sound.
  • Analyse financial and operational performance, identifying opportunities to optimise resources, improve delivery performance and maximise returns from strategic investments.
  • Strengthen portfolio governance through effective reporting, investment monitoring, benefits tracking and post-implementation reviews.
  • Contribute to financial planning, forecasting and performance reporting, connecting portfolio investment decisions with broader business objectives.
  • Build trusted relationships across Finance, project and programme teams and business leadership, lifting commercial capability and continuously improving how we measure and manage performance.

What you'll bring

You'll be a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys looking beyond the numbers to understand what is driving performance and where opportunities exist to create value.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Significant experience in senior finance business partnering, commercial finance, investment analysis or a related role within a complex organisation.
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical and commercial skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Experience assessing business cases, evaluating investments or monitoring financial performance across projects, programmes or strategic initiatives.
  • An understanding of portfolio management, investment governance, project lifecycles and benefits realisation, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, constructively challenging thinking and influencing decisions through credible insights.
  • A collaborative, improvement-focused approach, with the ability to build capability and support better financial and commercial decision-making across the business.
  • A natural aptitude for adopting innovative AI-enabled solutions.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, with Chartered Accountant membership or an equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.

If you bring most of this experience, along with transferable skills and the drive to grow, we'd love to hear from you.

Why join Air New Zealand?

We want our people to live their best lives, with opportunities and benefits that support their growth, wellbeing and time outside work.

  • Enjoy discounted staff travel opportunities for you and your whānau.
  • Grow your career through exposure to enterprise-wide strategic initiatives, senior leaders and meaningful development opportunities.
  • Access FlexiLeave, giving you the option to purchase up to four additional weeks of leave each year.
  • Enjoy a range of work perks, including discounts on hotels, activities, retail and other services.
  • Access wellbeing support and discounted healthcare options designed to support you and your family.

Ready for take-off?

If you're ready to take your finance and commercial expertise beyond traditional business partnering and help shape how strategic investments deliver value, we'd love to hear from you.

This is your opportunity to influence decisions that matter, work across an iconic New Zealand business and play a meaningful role in shaping Air New Zealand's future.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
