Job Description

Kia ora!

Air New Zealand is on an accelerated journey to become the world's leading digital airline. Within our Digital team, you'll join a group of bold thinkers and builders who are redefining how technology supports travel. You'll work in a dedicated product squad, collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Engineering peers to build intuitive, high-performing Android applications that serve customers across Aotearoa and around the globe.

As an Intermediate Mobile Engineer, you'll play an important role in bringing Air New Zealand's digital ambition to life. Your work will help power the mobile experiences that enable customers to search, book, manage, and enjoy their journeys, delivering seamless and reliable interactions at scale.

How you'll make an impact

  • Develop, test, and maintain high-quality Android applications that support millions of customer interactions each year.
  • Contribute to building scalable, secure, and reliable mobile solutions using modern Android development practices.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, UI and UX Designers, and backend engineers to turn ideas and requirements into engaging mobile experiences.
  • Help improve app performance, reliability, and maintainability through continuous improvement and clean coding practices.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs and technical issues to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing to support engineering quality across the squad.
  • Take ownership of development tasks and contribute to delivering quality solutions while continuing to grow your technical expertise.

What you'll bring

  • Around 3+ years of hands-on Android development experience, ideally within a collaborative product or engineering environment.
  • Solid experience with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, with some familiarity with Java.
  • Good understanding of the Android SDK, RESTful APIs, and common mobile architecture patterns.
  • Familiarity with modern development practices, including testing, version control, CI/CD, and code reviews.
  • Exposure to Swift, backend for frontend patterns, deployments, or AWS would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • An interest in using AI tooling to enhance development workflows and improve productivity.
  • A passion for writing clean, maintainable code and delivering great customer experiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced product environment.

If you meet the majority of the criteria and are excited by the opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Discounted flights for you and your whānau, plus access to standby travel across a global network.
  • FlexiLeave, with the option to purchase up to four additional weeks of leave each year.
  • A strong learning culture with on-the-job development and growth opportunities across the business.

This is your opportunity to help shape the digital future of an iconic New Zealand brand, working at scale and solving meaningful challenges. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
