Job Description

Do you want to support people, the economy, education and the environment by “keeping the wheels running” around the county? By playing your part in helping keep buses and specialist transport on time and reducing congestion you’d enable 1,000s of people to get to work, school, appointments and leisure.

Roles in the Communities, Economy and Transport (CET) department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work.

CET’s Transport Hub provides vital connections into the public transport network across the county to help people go about their daily lives, from getting to the gym and the shops, to visiting family and friends. We transport thousands of children to school every day, we provide transport for some of the most vulnerable people in our area and we help people who don’t have the opportunity to access public or private transport. Transport Hub services range from fleet management to transport of Adult Social Care customers, contracted bus and community services and home to school transport.

We currently have three vacancies for Transport Officers across the Transport Hub due to staff progression at the council and retirement. While the job description and person specification for Transport Officers is the same, each job will be different day-to-day. Ultimately, all roles are about helping passengers get to where they need to be and working with operators (including our own services) to do so.

Role 1: Passenger Transport – Bus Team CMT_595

The post holder will work as part of the Bus Team within the Transport Hub which is responsible for the provision of a variety of transport services for internal and external clients. Role 2: Passenger Transport – Adult Social Care Transport & Fleet Management CMT_591

The post holder will work as part of the Transport Hub’s ASC Transport & Fleet Management Team, which provides bespoke fleet transport for older people and adults with learning disabilities, and specialist fleet vehicles across the wider council. Key aspects of this role will include planning and administering transport arrangements, organising driver training and assessment, monitoring and reporting on fleet vehicle use, and supporting fleet users to ensure they are compliant with the council’s Safe Use of Motor Vehicles policy.

Role 3: Home to School Transport CMT_596

The post holder will work as part of the Home to School team and contribute to provision of travel assistance for children and young people including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You will communicate with parents and carers as well as education and transport providers. This role is about having a positive impact on the home to school transport experience.

In your duties you will be required to demonstrate

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
