WE ARE HIRING: Assistant Manager – Industrial Relations

Location: Sri Lanka Employment Type: Full Time Industry: Banking & Financial Services

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly competent Assistant Manager – Industrial Relations to support employee relations, industrial relations, labor law compliance, and disciplinary management within a leading banking environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining workplace harmony, managing legal and industrial relations matters, and ensuring compliance with employment legislation and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, focusing on employee relations, industrial relations, HR policies, and workplace harmony.
  • Stay updated on Employment Law and attend consultations on labor-related matters.
  • Liaise with legal counsel and represent the organization at Labor Tribunals, Higher Courts, and other relevant forums.
  • Provide expert advice on industrial relations matters while ensuring compliance with legal requirements and industry best practices.
  • Handle disciplinary matters and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions in consultation with management.
  • Draft service agreements and documentation related to employee disciplinary and industrial relations matters.
  • Manage interactions with employee organizations, trade unions, and labor authorities.
  • Support management in maintaining positive employee relations and resolving workplace disputes.
  • Ensure timely resolution of grievances and disciplinary issues in line with organizational policies.
  • Act as a liaison between management, employees, employee organizations, and labor authorities.

Candidate Profile

  • Attorney-at-Law qualification is mandatory.
  • Possession of a full or part qualification in Human Resources Management or a related field from a recognized university or professional body.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar capacity, preferably in Industrial Relations or HR Compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of Labor Law and Industrial Relations practices.
  • Proven experience handling employee relations and industrial relations procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of Employment Law and the legal framework governing labor disputes.
  • Strong understanding of HR policies, disciplinary procedures, and grievance management.
  • Experience drafting legal, disciplinary, and industrial relations documentation.
  • Knowledge of legal processes, including representation at Labor Tribunals and Courts.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal and HR issues and provide practical solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage with legal teams, management, unions, and employees.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exposure to the banking industry will be an added advantage.
