WE ARE HIRING: Veterinary Surgeon (CNVR Programme)

Location: Sri Lanka

Employment Type: Full-time

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Surgeon to provide high-quality surgical and medical care for animals, particularly street dogs, within a CNVR (Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release) programme.

This role involves performing surgical procedures, supporting animal welfare initiatives, working closely with veterinary and outreach teams, and contributing to community education on responsible animal care.

Key Responsibilities

Veterinary Care & Surgery

  • Provide the highest standard of veterinary care for street dogs and other animals.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative checks to assess whether animals are fit for surgery.
  • Prepare patients for surgery including IV placement, intubation, and sterile preparation.
  • Perform surgical procedures using high-standard tissue handling techniques.
  • Monitor gas anesthesia and ensure patient safety during surgical procedures.
  • Oversee post-operative recovery and ensure animals are fit to be released.

Clinical Support & Emergency Care

  • Support the nursing team during emergency situations including CPR and critical care.
  • Maintain high standards of animal welfare and humane handling practices.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and veterinary standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Science.
  • Valid veterinary registration/license to practice.
  • Additional training or certification in small animal surgery will be an advantage.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a small animal veterinary surgeon.
  • Strong experience performing spay/neuter surgeries.
  • Ability to work in high-volume or fast-paced clinical environments.
  • Strong understanding of animal welfare and ethical veterinary practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in outreach environments and mobile clinical operations.
