Reporting directly to the General Manager, this position serves as the key leader responsible for managing supplier relationships, procurement strategies, contract negotiations, cost optimization initiatives, inventory planning, and raw material availability across the entire production operation. The successful candidate will act as the General Manager's second-in-command for procurement and raw material supply matters, ensuring uninterrupted operations through effective planning, supplier management, market intelligence, and supply chain optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, commercial agreements, and long-term supply arrangements.
  • Build and maintain strong strategic relationships with local and international suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews covering quality, delivery performance, responsiveness, pricing stability, and compliance.
  • Lead supplier audits and implement improvement plans where performance gaps are identified.
  • Maintain multi-supplier sourcing strategies to minimize supply risk and dependency on single vendors.
  • Identify alternative supply sources and create supply continuity plans for critical material categories.

Procurement Planning & Supply Continuity

  • Translate production plans, forecasts, and confirmed sales orders into procurement requirements.
  • Plan and execute procurement activities to ensure uninterrupted material availability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain stock holdings within approved inventory targets.
  • Coordinate closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, and Planning teams.
  • Ensure raw materials arrive according to production schedules and business requirements.
  • Monitor all purchase orders from creation through successful delivery and closure.
  • Proactively expedite deliveries to prevent potential production disruptions.
  • Identify supply risks early and implement mitigation strategies before operational impacts occur.

Cost Management & Market Intelligence

  • Monitor global and local market trends affecting films, aluminium foil, inks, solvents, adhesives, and packaging raw materials.
  • Track commodity market movements including crude-oil-linked resin pricing and aluminium market fluctuations.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives through strategic negotiations, volume consolidation, alternate sourcing, and process improvements.
  • Evaluate import versus local purchasing alternatives considering duties, freight, lead times, quality, and financial impact.
  • Prepare procurement performance reports, savings reports, and budget-versus-actual analyses.
  • Provide management with market intelligence and recommendations relating to procurement risks and opportunities.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes for raw material procurement expenditure.

Quality, Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure purchased materials comply with approved technical specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance teams to address supplier-related quality issues and non-conformances.
  • Implement corrective action programs and monitor supplier improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain all procurement documentation in an audit-ready state.
  • Manage import documentation including Letters of Credit, Certificates of Origin, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Technical Data Sheets (TDS), and related documents.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procurement standards, and governance requirements.

Stakeholder Management & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across Production, Finance, Quality, Warehouse, Planning, and Management functions.
  • Coordinate closely with Finance on supplier payments, credit arrangements, and import-related transactions.
  • Prepare weekly procurement reports covering supplier performance, inventory status, lead times, procurement risks, savings initiatives, and stock coverage.
  • Provide recommendations to senior management regarding procurement strategy and supply chain optimization.
  • Support strategic business initiatives and growth plans by ensuring procurement readiness.

Leadership & Deputising Responsibilities

  • Act as the General Manager's primary delegate on procurement and raw material supply matters.
  • Provide procurement leadership during the General Manager's absence within delegated authority limits.
  • Manage procurement priorities independently while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence within the procurement function.
  • Support the development of procurement processes, governance frameworks, and best practices.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain, or Materials Management.
  • Strong experience within the Flexible Packaging, Packaging Manufacturing, Plastics, Printing, FMCG Manufacturing, or Industrial Manufacturing sectors.
  • Hands-on experience sourcing and managing packaging raw materials such as films, aluminium foil, inks, adhesives, laminates, and related materials.
  • Strong negotiation skills with proven success managing supplier relationships and achieving commercial savings.
  • Strong understanding of inventory planning, procurement forecasting, and supply chain operations.
  • Knowledge of import procurement, logistics, Letters of Credit, and international sourcing practices.
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret market trends and financial implications.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
