You will work with technologies including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Power BI, Python, SQL, R, and Azure services to improve how geospatial information is managed and delivered. Your work will directly support faster data retrieval, stronger reporting, improved mapping capabilities, and better decision-making. The position offers exposure to federal geospatial standards and mission-support systems while contributing to modern technology solutions. It is well suited to a technically strong GIS professional who enjoys solving complex data challenges and building practical geospatial applications.
Accountabilities
- Enhance existing land-use planning decision databases and transform them into more effective and user-friendly web mapping applications.
- Develop and improve geospatial applications that provide efficient access to planning, environmental, and natural resource data.
- Ensure fast and reliable data retrieval by analyzing existing infrastructure, processing workflows, and database performance.
- Develop interactive Power BI reports, dashboards, and applications that communicate geospatial insights and support informed decision-making.
- Integrate Power BI with ArcGIS and ESRI Experience Applications to combine business intelligence with mapping and spatial analysis.
- Evaluate and implement Azure Maps capabilities and other cloud-based mapping services where appropriate.
- Create and maintain automated data and metadata management scripts and batch processes using Python, R, SQL, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and federal metadata tools.
- Improve data processing and retrieval workflows across ArcGIS Server, enterprise geodatabases such as SDE, ArcGIS Portal, and related infrastructure.
- Develop processes that improve geospatial data performance, accessibility, governance, and reliability.
- Support enterprise GIS and business intelligence environments through application development, administration, integration, and optimization.
- Apply data governance and metadata management practices aligned with federal standards and organizational requirements.
- Produce geospatial analysis, cartographic outputs, technical documentation, and training materials as needed.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and customers to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver practical GIS solutions.
- Contribute to information security, compliance, and technology modernization initiatives supporting federal geospatial programs.
- Approximately 5+ years of application development experience is preferred, particularly in GIS, geospatial applications, or related technical environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise GIS and business intelligence environments.
- Experience with Power BI administration and development, including reports, dashboards, data models, and interactive applications.
- Strong experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
- Experience with geospatial analysis, cartographic production, and spatial data workflows.
- Knowledge of metadata management, data governance, and federal geospatial data practices.
- Experience with cloud integration and Azure services.
- Understanding of database optimization, data architecture, and performance improvement.
- Programming or scripting experience with Python, R, SQL, and/or comparable data management technologies.
- Ability to automate data and metadata workflows and develop repeatable batch-processing solutions.
- Knowledge of information security and compliance requirements within enterprise or federal environments.
- Strong technical documentation, training, stakeholder engagement, and customer support skills.
- Ability to analyze complex technical environments and translate business or mission requirements into effective geospatial solutions.
- Experience supporting federal land-use planning, environmental management, or natural resource programs is preferred.
- Knowledge of federal geospatial policies, standards, and mission-support systems is a plus.
- Experience with Azure Maps, including vector tiles, routing, geocoding, spatial operations, and cloud-based mapping services, is preferred.
- Familiarity with AI and emerging technology guidance applicable to federal environmental, planning, and geospatial programs is beneficial.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Salary range of $105,000–$140,000.
- Full-time employment.
- Remote, hybrid, telework-approved, or on-site arrangements depending on contract and client requirements.
- Opportunity to support federal land-use planning, environmental, natural resource, and geospatial programs.
- Exposure to enterprise GIS, business intelligence, cloud mapping, and modern geospatial technologies.
- Opportunity to work with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Power BI, Azure Maps, Python, R, SQL, and related platforms.
- Ability to contribute to modernization of geospatial applications and data infrastructure.
- Opportunity to improve data accessibility, performance, reporting, and spatial decision-making.
- Exposure to federal geospatial standards, governance, security, and mission-support environments.
- Opportunities to work on technically challenging projects spanning GIS development, DevOps, automation, and geospatial application engineering.
- Potential for professional growth across mid-to-senior technical GIS and geospatial development responsibilities.
