This role combines underwriting expertise, business development, and relationship management within the specialized life sciences insurance market. You will manage complex new business and renewal opportunities across an assigned producer network, balancing customer needs with underwriting guidelines and profitability objectives. The position requires strong analytical judgment to evaluate risks, develop pricing, and structure appropriate coverage solutions. You will build trusted relationships with brokers, insureds, and internal partners while identifying opportunities for growth and account expansion. Working closely with underwriting leadership and cross-functional teams, you will contribute to product initiatives, marketing efforts, and strategic projects. Accountabilities:
- Lead account solicitation, risk selection, analysis, documentation, pricing, and marketing for new and existing life sciences customers.
- Manage underwriting and renewal activities for complex accounts across assigned producers and geographic territories.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and producers while supporting growth, profitability, retention, and new business objectives.
- Develop new producer relationships and identify business development opportunities within assigned regions.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts through account rounding and additional products or services.
- Provide technical guidance and support to producers and insureds throughout the underwriting and servicing process.
- Apply underwriting guidelines, profitability models, and customer requirements when developing pricing and coverage solutions.
- Stay current with compliance requirements, procedural updates, and workflow changes.
- Collaborate closely with underwriting associates, operations, legal, home office underwriting, risk management, and claims teams.
- Contribute to innovation initiatives, product launches, marketing campaigns, and short-term strategic projects.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely, organized follow-through across assigned accounts and opportunities.
- Travel as required to support broker and client relationships, business development, and other commercial activities.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 5 years of underwriting experience, including relevant insurance products.
- Experience with life sciences products liability is preferred.
- Claims-made underwriting experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated success building and maintaining strong relationships with insureds, agents, and brokers.
- Strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail, with the ability to evaluate complex accounts and develop appropriate pricing and coverage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and situations.
- Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to find solutions while maintaining sound underwriting judgment and professional relationships.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with strong accountability and follow-through.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure, challenge established approaches constructively, and collaborate effectively across organizational levels.
- Natural curiosity and an interest in understanding complex businesses, identifying opportunities, and driving continuous improvement.
- Strong personal leadership, technical effectiveness, initiative, and innovation skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and related productivity tools.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight travel.
- Must be able to work from Naperville, Illinois.

- Base salary range of $95,000–$120,000.
