The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an On-Call Maintenance Specialist, School of Programming – Contract Role based in India.

This contract opportunity is ideal for a software engineering professional who enjoys keeping technical learning content accurate, current, and reliable. You’ll join a contractor pool supporting the ongoing maintenance of programming courses across modern development technologies and tooling. Your work will directly improve the learner experience by resolving technical issues, updating outdated content, and ensuring coding environments remain functional. You’ll work with technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, React, Node.js, Docker, Linux, Git, and cloud-based development environments. The role combines software engineering, troubleshooting, developer tooling, technical documentation, and educational content maintenance. You’ll operate primarily as an independent contributor while collaborating with content and learning specialists when needed.

Accountabilities

  • Review course performance, learner feedback, lesson ratings, and technical issues to identify content requiring maintenance or improvement.
  • Update written content, code examples, screenshots, demonstrations, instructions, and workflows to reflect current frameworks, SDKs, libraries, and development practices.
  • Modernize starter code, dependencies, package versions, and runtime environments, including migrations to newer versions of Node.js, Python, and other technologies.
  • Reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs reported by learners across programming exercises, labs, and development environments.
  • Validate code execution, automated testing systems, workspace behavior, and technical instructions to ensure a reliable learner experience.
  • Create, update, and optimize Docker images used for programming courses, including maintaining Dockerfiles, Makefiles, entrypoint scripts, and Linux setup scripts.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain programming runtimes and developer tooling, including Node.js, Python, Java, Kotlin, Swift, npm/pnpm/yarn, Gradle, CocoaPods, pip, and Poetry.
  • Configure and maintain browser-based development environments such as VS Code Web, Jupyter, and terminal workspaces, including Kubernetes-compatible images.
  • Add and maintain developer tools such as linters, debuggers, command-line utilities, and other resources required by learners.
  • Collaborate with content developers, program managers, learning architects, and other stakeholders to define maintenance scope, priorities, and technical requirements.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python development.
  • Strong understanding of modern web development frameworks such as React, Next.js, Express, Flask, or comparable technologies.
  • Proven ability to debug real-world codebases, identify technical issues, and troubleshoot learner submissions or development environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Git and GitHub.
  • Strong skills in issue reproduction, root-cause analysis, debugging, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to write clear, accurate, and high-quality technical and instructional documentation.
  • Familiarity with Docker-based development environments and containerized workflows.
  • Understanding of modern build systems, dependency management, and package managers.
  • Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, PyTest, Mocha, XCTest, or similar tools is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Android development and the Android Developer ecosystem is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Apple Developer ecosystem and iOS development is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and contribute effectively in a remote contractor environment.
  • A resume highlighting relevant software engineering, development tooling, and technical maintenance experience should be included with the application.
  • Remote contract opportunity based in India.
  • Flexible access to project opportunities through an expert contractor pool as new course maintenance needs arise.
  • Opportunity to work across a broad range of programming technologies, frameworks, developer tools, and cloud-based learning environments.
  • Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes-compatible workspaces, Linux tooling, cloud labs, CI/CD, testing systems, and modern software development workflows.
  • Opportunity to directly improve the quality, accuracy, and reliability of technical learning experiences for learners.
  • Collaboration with experienced professionals across content development, program management, learning architecture, and technical education.
  • Potential to contribute across multiple programming domains based on expertise and project requirements.
  • Compensation is determined based on factors such as location, role, skill set, and level of experience, with the applicable range communicated in accordance with local requirements.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
