This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Project Unanet Accountant based in United States.
This fully remote role supports the Accounting and Finance function within a government contracting environment. You will help ensure accurate, compliant, and timely financial transactions across project accounting, payroll, accounting, and Unanet. The position plays an important role in maintaining reliable project financials and supporting efficient billing, payroll, and accounting cycles. You will work closely with Accounting, Payroll, Project Control, Unanet Administration, employees, and managers across the organization. Your responsibilities will span reconciliations, journal entries, labor charging, expense reviews, payroll close, and compliance monitoring. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to financial integrity while supporting year-end close, audits, and government contracting requirements. This position can be performed remotely anywhere in the United States and follows Eastern Time working hours.
Accountabilities
- Execute and review project accounting transactions to support daily project operations and maintain accurate financial records.
- Process timecard and labor adjustments in accordance with cost accounting standards and labor-charging policies.
- Review and validate employee expense reports for appropriate coding, supporting documentation, and compliance with applicable travel policies.
- Complete cost-rate dilution entries and related adjustments as part of the payroll close process.
- Review and execute charge-code authorizations and support accurate project labor allocation.
- Support payroll, accounting, and billing cycles by completing required close activities and resolving outstanding issues.
- Reconcile payroll costs with Unanet and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare journal entries for the monthly close cycle and perform account reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all cash accounts.
- Assist with year-end close and audit activities, including ad hoc accounting and documentation requests.
- Support the payroll team by following up on employee timesheets and ensuring submissions are accurate, complete, and approved on time.
- Identify, escalate, and assist in resolving accounting, labor-charging, and compliance issues.
- Support time-period closeout by ensuring timecards are completed and submitted within required deadlines.
- Analyze time-charging activities to identify and remediate compliance issues, including incorrect fringe and overhead labor charging.
- Maintain accurate, well-supported adjustments and contribute to timely, efficient, and issue-free payroll, billing, and accounting closes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in government contracting accounting or finance.
- Proficiency with the Unanet accounting system, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
- Strong understanding of project accounting, payroll-related accounting activities, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial close processes.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive and effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across accounting, finance, payroll, project control, and operational teams.
- Experience providing cross-functional support across accounting, finance, and payroll is preferred.
- Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies while maintaining compliance with applicable accounting and government contracting requirements.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
- Expected base salary of $90,000–$105,000 annually, depending on skills, experience, education, certifications, work location, market conditions, internal equity, and contract requirements.
