The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Servicing Attorney based in United States.

This is a senior legal role supporting mortgage servicing operations across litigation, regulatory matters, compliance, and legal risk management. You will advise servicing teams on complex legal issues while managing litigation, regulatory complaints, title claims, and customer disputes. The position offers broad exposure to federal and state mortgage servicing requirements as well as investor and insurer guidelines. You will work closely with operational, compliance, vendor management, and legal stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risk. The role combines strategic legal judgment with hands-on review of loan files, customer communications, policies, procedures, and regulatory responses. You will also interact with regulatory agencies, attorneys general, outside counsel, vendors, investors, and internal business teams. This opportunity is well suited to an experienced mortgage servicing attorney who brings strong ethics, attention to detail, communication skills, and practical in-house legal judgment.

Accountabilities

  • Manage and oversee servicing litigation, title matters, and escalated contested foreclosure litigation involving mortgage loans.
  • Oversee title claims and coordinate appropriate legal responses and resolution strategies.
  • Provide day-to-day legal support to the servicing organization on mortgage servicing matters and operational questions.
  • Research and prepare responses to qualified written requests, requests for information, and debt disputes.
  • Review loan files and legal documentation and advise operational teams on applicable legal requirements.
  • Provide legal guidance on modification agreements, successors in interest, customer escalations, and servicing-related disputes.
  • Manage regulatory complaints, including file review, legal analysis, and communications with regulatory agencies and attorneys general.
  • Review and approve customer-facing correspondence, scripts, and email communications to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Support vendor management activities by reviewing and monitoring third-party servicing vendors.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of default law firm compliance with applicable federal, state, investor, and insurer requirements.
  • Review and approve servicing policies, procedures, disclosures, and other legal documentation for compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Advise compliance and operational teams on servicing-related legal and regulatory matters, including fraud investigations and inquiries.
  • Assist with litigation and regulatory complaint reporting for clients, investors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Handle additional legal and compliance matters as assigned based on business needs.
  • Juris Doctor degree required.
  • Active license and good standing to practice law in the applicable state.
  • 5–7 years of legal experience involving mortgage servicing, including debt collection, foreclosure, and bankruptcy law.
  • In-house legal experience is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state mortgage servicing requirements as well as investor and insurer guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of CFPB requirements and applicable Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and VA guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex servicing litigation, regulatory complaints, and legal risk matters.
  • Strong legal research, analysis, and written communication skills.
  • High level of professional ethics, integrity, and sound legal judgment.
  • Excellent organizational and attention-to-detail skills, particularly when managing multiple matters and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across legal, operational, compliance, and external stakeholder groups.
  • Team-oriented approach with the ability to work independently and take ownership of complex legal matters.
  • Ability to verify identity and employment eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work Central Standard Time hours.
  • Starting compensation of $140,000+ depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Full-time employment.
  • Austin, Texas-based position with four days per week onsite for candidates within 30 miles of Austin.
  • Remote work option for candidates located more than 30 miles from Austin.
  • Opportunity to work on complex mortgage servicing litigation, regulatory, compliance, and legal risk matters.
  • Broad exposure to federal, state, investor, and insurer requirements.
  • Collaboration with legal, compliance, servicing, vendor management, regulatory, and operational teams.
  • Opportunity to advise business leaders and contribute directly to legal and compliance risk management.
  • Professional environment focused on ethical, detail-oriented, and team-based legal work.
  • Reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
