About Our Family

We are a busy, high-energy, military-connected family with three school-aged children and two cats. One parent is an entrepreneur and works primarily from home, while the other serves in the U.S. Navy.

Our days have many moving parts, and we rely on systems, checklists, and technology to keep everything organized and running smoothly. We are looking for a dependable Housekeeper and Family Assistant who enjoys being hands-on, takes genuine pride in keeping spaces clean, and can help our family stay on top of everyday responsibilities.

Our greatest priority is finding someone who takes ownership of our household's daily needs, notices what needs to be done, and follows through without requiring constant direction.

Cleanliness is central to this position. We need someone who is comfortable with the practical, sometimes messy realities of a busy household with children and pets. Whether that means thoroughly cleaning a kitchen after meal preparation, managing laundry from start to finish, or addressing an unexpected mess, we value someone who takes initiative and gets the job done.

At the same time, this role extends beyond traditional housekeeping. You will help support our children's morning routines, maintain household systems, manage inventory, run errands, and assist with special projects.

In addition to our family home, we operate a growing furnished rental business with multiple properties in Southern Maryland, all located within a short drive of our home.

For the right candidate who demonstrates strong attention to detail, cleaning skills, reliability, initiative, and the ability to take on expanded responsibilities, we see a genuine opportunity for this role to grow into a full-time position. Additional work may include rental property turnovers, property quality control, restocking, and other hands-on business operations.

We are looking for a long-term partnership with someone who can grow alongside our family and business.

We are a military-connected family and have a deep appreciation for others with similar backgrounds. We welcome candidates who may have employment gaps related to military family life and value demonstrated capability, reliability, and initiative over formal education or a particular career path.

Who You Are / What We're Looking For

  • Experienced & Comfortable with Hands-On Cleaning: You genuinely enjoy cleaning and take pride in maintaining an environment that is not just tidy but truly clean. You are comfortable with daily upkeep and addressing unexpected messes.
  • Proactive & Observant: You naturally notice what needs attention and take action without waiting to be asked. You understand that a busy household requires both established routines and the flexibility to respond to unexpected needs.
  • Accountable & Thorough: You take ownership of responsibilities and follow tasks through to completion. Whether managing laundry, grocery shopping, or cleaning the kitchen, you ensure the entire process is finished.
  • Organized & Systems-Oriented: You appreciate checklists, schedules, and routines and enjoy creating order in a busy household.
  • Tech-Savvy: You are comfortable using apps, digital checklists, smart home tools, and technology to track tasks and hours. An interest in AI tools and process improvement is a plus.
  • Reliable: You understand the importance of consistency and punctuality, particularly when supporting children's school schedules and early morning household routines.
  • Warm & Confident with Children: You enjoy being around children and can provide patient guidance, encouragement, and age-appropriate supervision while reinforcing established family expectations.
  • Flexible & Adaptable: You can comfortably shift between cleaning, laundry, children's routines, errands, rental property turnovers, and other household priorities.
  • Self-Directed: You work well independently and are comfortable taking ownership of your responsibilities without requiring significant oversight.
  • Efficient & Resourceful: You value completing tasks thoroughly and efficiently, respect household budgets, and enjoy finding practical ways to save time.
  • Collaborative & Respectful: You are comfortable learning a family's established preferences and routines and working alongside family members and an existing remote operations manager.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Home Care & Upkeep

  • Maintain the daily cleanliness, tidiness, and overall upkeep of the family home, including kitchens, bathrooms, floors, and common areas.
  • Take pride in maintaining a genuinely clean home, recognizing when spaces need more than a quick tidy or surface-level reset.
  • Proactively identify and address messes without needing direction, including food spills, pet accidents, dirty surfaces, and other everyday household needs.
  • Be comfortable rolling up your sleeves to tackle hands-on cleaning tasks as needed, including bathrooms, cleaning stovetops, mopping floors, and addressing messes as they arise.
  • Maintain an organized, comfortable, and well-cared-for home, ensuring spaces are reset and ready for the family's daily activities or larger events as needed.
  • Use smart home tools, including the robotic vacuum app, to support daily cleaning routines.
  • Complete occasional more detailed cleaning tasks, including baseboards and other areas requiring additional attention.
  • Help clean and reset family vehicles as needed, including cleaning underneath boosters.
  • Take ownership of cleaning responsibilities from start to finish, including putting away supplies and ensuring spaces are fully reset.

The family is seeking someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming home. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, recognizes what needs attention, and takes initiative to keep the household running smoothly. Comfort with hands-on cleaning and a willingness to tackle everyday messes are essential to success in this role.

Laundry & Linen Care

  • Manage the full household laundry cycle, including washing, drying, folding, sorting, and putting clothing away.
  • Change, wash, and replace bed linens on a weekly schedule.
  • Refresh towels and other household linens as needed.
  • Ensure beds are fully remade and laundry responsibilities are completed within the scheduled work period whenever possible.
  • Help children maintain their clothing organization and complete age-appropriate laundry responsibilities.
  • Ensure school uniforms and everyday clothing are organized and easily accessible.
  • Monitor laundry supplies and flag items requiring replenishment.

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Maintain household organization systems, checklists, and daily routines.
  • Help ensure household items have designated places and are returned to their proper locations.
  • Identify missing, damaged, or depleted household items and proactively communicate replacement needs.
  • Support the development and maintenance of practical household procedures and checklists.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for occasional vendor visits, including providing access to tradespeople when needed.
  • Assist with basic coordination of maintenance and service appointments as requested.
  • Support household projects, seasonal preparations, and organizational improvements.
  • Collaborate with the family's remote operations manager on tasks requiring an in-person presence.
  • Identify unfinished tasks and help ensure household responsibilities are completed.

Inventory & Errands

  • Monitor pantry, refrigerator, cleaning supplies, and other household inventory using ClickUp and established systems.
  • Track supplies used by both the family home and furnished rental properties.
  • Identify items running low and update shopping or replenishment lists proactively.
  • Support the family's budget-conscious shopping approach by following purchasing preferences, identifying sales, and assisting with bulk-buying opportunities.
  • Pick up grocery orders and other purchases using provided lists and instructions.
  • Unload groceries, properly store refrigerated and frozen items, and put away all purchases.
  • Handle returns, dry cleaning drop-off and pickup, gift shopping, school supplies, and other household errands as needed.
  • Manage mail, packages, recycling, and box breakdown.
  • Maintain accurate task updates and record completed responsibilities and hours in ClickUp.

Family Support

  • Help facilitate the family's weekday morning routine, with particular emphasis on the 6:00-8:00 AM window.
  • Guide three school-aged children through their morning checklists using the Skylight app.
  • Support children with getting dressed, locating school uniforms, preparing lunches, gathering belongings, and completing their responsibilities.
  • Reinforce the family's established routines, expectations, and boundaries while encouraging age-appropriate independence.
  • Ensure children complete their assigned responsibilities rather than routinely doing those tasks for them.
  • Help maintain an organized and clean kitchen while supporting children's morning preparations.
  • Be willing to accompany children to the nearby bus stop when needed.
  • Provide appropriate adult supervision when a child must remain home from school during scheduled working hours, as agreed upon with the family.
  • Support occasional school, camp, holiday, and seasonal preparations.

This is not primarily a nanny position. The children are increasingly independent, and the family wants someone who can provide practical guidance and supervision while continuing to manage household responsibilities.

Rental Property Management & Special Projects

The family operates a growing furnished rental business with multiple properties in Southern Maryland. This creates a meaningful opportunity for additional hours and potential full-time employment.

  • Provide hands-on cleaning support for furnished rental properties between guest stays.
  • Follow established property turnover checklists, including detailed cleaning, laundry, restocking, and resetting each space to standard.
  • Conduct property walkthroughs and quality-control checks to ensure properties are clean, well maintained, and guest-ready.
  • Support the setup and preparation of newly furnished properties.
  • Help maintain consistent household and cleaning systems across multiple properties.
  • Assist with coordinating vendors, maintenance, and additional housekeeping staff as needed.

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
