PostgreSQL Database Expert | Cloud & Migration Projects

Bern Region, Switzerland | Hybrid

Permanent Role

Are you a database professional who has developed strong PostgreSQL expertise and enjoys working on more than simply day-to-day database administration?

We are supporting an established Swiss technology company looking to strengthen its database capability with an experienced PostgreSQL professional.

This is a varied technical position where you'll work across different customer environments, helping organisations modernise, improve and evolve business-critical database landscapes.

You will have the opportunity to work on everything from performance and reliability challenges through to database migrations, automation and new PostgreSQL solutions across both traditional and cloud-based environments.

The Role

Your work will include:

  • Taking technical ownership of PostgreSQL environments across a variety of customer projects
  • Improving database performance, stability, scalability and resilience
  • Supporting the design and evolution of PostgreSQL solutions
  • Delivering database modernisation and migration projects
  • Troubleshooting complex database and production issues
  • Working with Linux-based environments and infrastructure automation
  • Building greater automation using tools such as Ansible, Terraform and Shell
  • Working with technologies and concepts around high availability, replication, backup and recovery
  • Contributing to both cloud and on-premise database environments
  • Providing hands-on technical guidance to customers and working closely with other experienced technology professionals

This isn't a purely operational DBA position. You'll have the opportunity to combine hands-on PostgreSQL work with technical problem-solving, project delivery and customer advisory responsibilities.

What We are Looking For

PostgreSQL experience is the key requirement.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • 5+ years of overall experience within databases
  • At least 2+ years of professional PostgreSQL experience
  • Strong SQL and performance optimisation knowledge
  • Good knowledge of Linux
  • Experience working with highly available and business-critical database environments
  • Some exposure to infrastructure automation
  • Experience delivering database upgrades, transformations or migrations
  • Previous Oracle experience would be particularly interesting, especially if you have subsequently moved towards PostgreSQL
  • Containers/Kubernetes exposure would be useful, but isn't essential
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Confidence communicating directly with customers and technical stakeholders
  • German at B2 level or above, ideally C1+
  • Good professional English

Why This Opportunity?

One of the biggest attractions is the variety.

Rather than maintaining the same internal database estate year after year, you will work across different technical environments and customer challenges, giving you exposure to a broader range of PostgreSQL use cases.

You will also be joining an organisation where database technology is an established area of expertise and where knowledge sharing and continued technical development are actively encouraged.

For someone with an Oracle background who has already started specialising in PostgreSQL, this could be particularly attractive: you will be able to build significantly deeper PostgreSQL expertise while still benefiting from your previous enterprise database experience.

What's On Offer?

Up to 50% home office, depending on project requirements

Support for continued learning and professional development

Exposure to varied database transformation and migration projects

Opportunity to work across cloud and traditional infrastructure

Collaborative environment with experienced technical colleagues

Long-term opportunity within an established Swiss technology business

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
