Technical R&D Project Manager – HVAC & Sensor Technology

Zurich Region, Switzerland (hybrid)

Permanent

R&D | HVAC | Product Development | Industrialisation

Are you an experienced engineer with a background in HVAC or building technology who enjoys leading complex technical products from early development through to industrialisation?

We are supporting an established Swiss high-tech organisation in the search for a Technical R&D Project Manager to lead multidisciplinary product development projects within its HVAC technology portfolio.

This is an opportunity to work in a highly innovative engineering environment, developing advanced sensing and measurement technologies for HVAC and building applications, while taking genuine ownership of projects from concept through to market introduction.

The Role

You will lead technically complex R&D projects involving specialists from multiple engineering and business disciplines.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading development programmes from concept and feasibility through development, industrialisation and launch

Taking responsibility for project delivery, budget, technical risk and quality

Coordinating multidisciplinary specialists across R&D, engineering, manufacturing, quality and commercial functions

Translating HVAC application and customer requirements into clear development priorities

Supporting key technical and strategic decisions throughout the product development lifecycle

Identifying project and technical risks early and driving appropriate mitigation measures

Creating alignment between engineering teams, business stakeholders and customer requirements

Establishing clear priorities and ensuring projects progress effectively against agreed objectives

Your Background

We are particularly interested in candidates who combine a strong technical foundation with experience leading R&D or product development projects.

Ideally, you will bring:

A degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Sciences or another relevant technical discipline

Professional experience within HVAC, building technology, building automation, ventilation, indoor air quality or related technologies

Experience within R&D, engineering and physical product development

Experience taking technical products from development towards industrialisation and series production

Proven responsibility for complex technical projects involving multiple engineering disciplines

A good understanding of the interaction between R&D, manufacturing/operations, quality and commercial teams

The technical credibility to work effectively with specialist engineers while maintaining responsibility for the overall project

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

German language skills are highly desirable, alongside strong English communication skills

Experience with sensors, measurement technology, controls, electronics, mechatronics or other sophisticated HVAC-related products would be particularly attractive.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

You will be joining a successful Swiss technology environment where R&D and engineering are central to the business, rather than simply supporting functions.

The position offers:

Exposure to sophisticated technology and highly experienced engineering specialists

Genuine involvement across the complete product lifecycle – from initial concept to market

The opportunity to influence both technical direction and project execution

Collaboration with international teams and stakeholders

Significant ownership and visibility within strategically important development projects

Flexible working arrangements and an attractive overall employment package

Competitive benefits, including strong pension provisions and opportunities to participate in the company's long-term success

A culture that encourages engineers and project leaders to contribute ideas, challenge decisions and take responsibility

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
