Job Description

The Global Engagement Advisor is an inaugural, dual-role position that bridges the regulatory and advising functions of the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) with the student engagement and program operations of the Global Engagement Office (formerly the Office of Study Away). We are seeking an adaptable, collaborative professional who brings a student-centered approach to both advising and programming. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and is passionate about supporting students from around the world. As a key member of our team, the Advisor will lead the “front door” of the office—creating a welcoming, inclusive experience through front-desk management, student staff supervision, and thoughtful, academically intentional advising and engagement.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Associate Director for Global Engagement and the Associate Director for International Students and Scholars, responsibilities include:

  • Under the direction of the Associate Director, support the strategic shift from individual advising appointments to a layered, holistic, student-centered approach. Prioritize peer-led group-based engagement with a focus on academic integration.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Directors, coordinate and support global learning and outreach initiatives (on and off campus) such as study abroad fairs, information sessions, and classroom visits. Lead engagement programs like Global Talks and International Student Orientation to foster meaningful connections between international students, campus, and the local community. Occasional travel required to partner schools, fairs, and professional conferences.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Global Engagement Program Providers (GEP), offering recruitment support, and troubleshooting assistance for students during the application, and onboarding process.
  • Manage daily front-desk operations and oversee the shared office email account, ensuring responsive, student-friendly communication and a welcoming environment. Assist with the development of key marketing materials and brand formatting.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), issuing Form I-20s and maintaining accurate records in SEVIS. Serve as a back-up to the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) as needed for occasional coverage and emergencies.
  • Monitor and interpret federal regulations related to international students and travel, serving as a knowledgeable resource and backup to the Primary DSO.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise Global Engagement Peer Mentors to serve as the first point of contact for all students. Establish tiered referral processes to resolve advanced student cases. Oversee mentor-mentee matching, with a focus on building an inclusive and supportive student community.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental needs.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (required for DSO/ARO eligibility under federal law)
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in international education, advising, student support, or program coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adaptable, and resourceful in a dynamic work environment
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work both independently and across departments
  • High attention to detail, excellent time management, & strong organizational skills
  • Experience working with SEVIS
  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered practices and cross-cultural engagement

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in International Education, Higher Education Administration, or related field
  • Experience with both international student advising and study abroad administration
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Canva
  • Experience with application management systems such as Terra Dotta or Horizons

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
