A Project Geoscientist is responsible for task leadership, execution, and control, ensuring adherence to project scope, budget, and schedules. They serve as the field team lead on specific tasks and/or lead moderately complex and multi-component scopes of work under the direction of the Project Manager (PM) or Principal and Senior Project staff. Project Geoscientists are accountable for handling specific technical aspects of projects appropriate to the Geoscience discipline as members of multidisciplinary teams. They will balance work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of large projects. Project Geoscientists serve as capable technical resources and are recognized for expertise in at least one of Weston’s service areas.

Location: West Chester PA, DE, or NJ

Expected Outcomes:

  • Direct field investigations and sampling programs, including drilling, monitoring-well installation, lithologic and stratigraphic logging, and soil, rock, groundwater, and project-specific sampling; coordinate field operations and data collection to meet project objectives.
  • Lead moderate-to-complex, multi-component field and office scopes, integrating technical requirements, staffing, subcontractors, laboratories, quality, and EHS under Project Manager or senior technical direction.
  • Lead EHS implementation for medium- to high-risk work; align field activities with project- and site-specific requirements, manage field-team compliance, exercise Stop Work Authority, and engage EHS leadership when plans conflict with scope or site conditions.
  • Evaluate new technologies, techniques, and process improvements and recommend adoption when they provide demonstrated technical, safety, quality, schedule, or cost benefits.
  • Define and adapt methods for assignments within core competencies; resolve nonroutine technical and operational issues using professional judgment and seek senior input for novel, high-risk, or strategic matters.
  • Serve as the technical lead in at least one area of geoscience practice; establish defensible technical direction and guide consistent application of methods, standards, and requirements.
  • Document and present technically sound findings, conclusions, and recommendations based on project data; tailor deliverables to investigation objectives, regulatory requirements, and the intended audience.
  • Lead peer and quality reviews of technical work products; identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and verify implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with scope, technical specifications, SOPs, data-quality objectives, and QA/QC requirements, and maintain complete, orderly, and auditable project records.
  • Control assigned scope, schedule, field budget, and resources; forecast variances, reprioritize work, and implement or recommend corrective actions to meet project commitments.
  • Assign and coordinate work for project staff and subcontractors; communicate expectations, monitor results, address routine issues, provide leadership feedback, and contribute to staff development and performance decisions.
  • Coach junior staff through technical direction, review, and feedback, reinforcing consistent methods, quality standards, documentation practices, and lessons learned.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and stakeholders; clarify needs, convey findings and project status, manage routine concerns, and elevate strategic or sensitive matters.
  • Balance priorities across concurrent assignments, anticipate competing demands and dependencies, and coordinate with project leadership to maintain timely progress.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field and 6–10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • G.I.T. or P.G. registration is preferred but not required; active participation in a relevant professional organization is encouraged.
  • Advanced technical competence in geoscience field investigations and demonstrated expertise in at least one area of geoscience practice.
  • Ability to direct drilling, monitoring-well installation, lithologic and stratigraphic logging, and soil, rock, groundwater, and other project-specific sampling programs.
  • Ability to lead moderate-to-complex, multi-component field and office scopes and integrate technical requirements, staffing, subcontractors, laboratories, quality, and EHS considerations.
  • Ability to lead EHS implementation for medium- to high-risk work, apply project- and site-specific safety requirements, manage field-team compliance, exercise Stop Work Authority, and engage EHS leadership when needed.
  • Ability to define and adapt technical methods, establish defensible technical direction, resolve nonroutine technical and operational issues, and seek senior input for novel, high-risk, or strategic matters.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, technical standards, standard operating procedures, data-quality objectives, QA/QC requirements, and documentation practices.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret project data and develop technically sound, defensible findings, conclusions, recommendations, reports, and presentations for the intended audience.
  • Ability to lead peer and quality reviews, identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, verify implementation, and maintain complete, orderly, and auditable project records.
  • Ability to evaluate new technologies, techniques, and process improvements and assess their technical, safety, quality, schedule, and cost benefits.
  • Ability to control assigned scope, schedule, field budget, and resources; forecast variances, balance priorities across concurrent assignments, and implement or recommend corrective actions.
  • Ability to assign and coordinate work for project staff, subcontractors, and laboratories; communicate expectations, monitor results, address routine issues, and elevate significant concerns.
  • Ability to coach junior staff through technical direction, review, and constructive feedback and contribute informed input to staff development and performance decisions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clarify needs, present technical findings and project status, manage routine concerns, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with electronic data-collection, GPS, GIS, data-management, and Microsoft Office® applications, including establishing consistent workflows and guiding others in their use.
