This is an opportunity to lead the development of high-impact medical education and scientific communications across healthcare and life sciences. You will combine scientific expertise, strategic thinking, and compelling storytelling to create accurate, engaging, and compliant medical content. The role works closely with medical writers, account teams, clients, and cross-functional partners across multiple therapeutic areas. You will provide scientific leadership while mentoring writers and helping teams translate complex data into clear, actionable narratives. Strong client engagement will be central to the role, with responsibility for strategic guidance and trusted medical partnership. The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, with opportunities to contribute to business development and innovative approaches to healthcare communications. This remote opportunity is open to candidates in Canada and requires alignment with Eastern U.S. working hours.
Accountabilities
- Lead and mentor a team of medical writers across assigned therapeutic areas and client accounts, supporting professional development and maintaining high standards of scientific excellence.
- Review, edit, and provide strategic guidance on medical content to ensure scientific accuracy, consistency, clarity, and alignment with client objectives.
- Serve as a key medical advisor to clients, contributing to medical communication strategies and the development, execution, and evaluation of related tactics and deliverables.
- Act as a primary medical point of contact for assigned clients, building trusted relationships and providing both strategic and tactical guidance throughout projects.
- Ensure medical deliverables meet applicable client requirements, industry standards, regulatory expectations, and quality standards.
- Partner with account and project leads to understand project scope and status, support accurate budgeting and resourcing, and facilitate effective communication across cross-functional teams.
- Contribute medical expertise to new business opportunities, including proposal development, presentations, and client pitches.
- Support broader departmental and agency initiatives and take on additional responsibilities as business needs evolve.
- At least 3 years of experience in healthcare communications within an agency environment, with a demonstrated record of delivering high-quality medical or scientific communications.
- Advanced degree in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, or a related discipline; a PhD, MD, or PharmD is preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, concise, persuasive, and audience-appropriate narratives.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse healthcare audiences, including primary care physicians and specialists.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills, with a positive, solutions-oriented, and client-focused approach.
- Strategic and analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret scientific data, identify meaningful insights, and translate them into compliant communication strategies.
- Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat.
- Familiarity with online proofing platforms such as Workfront Proof or Ziflow and content management platforms such as Veeva Vault.
- Experience using AI tools and resources to support research and content development efficiently and responsibly.
- Strong alignment with collaborative, impact-focused, accountable, and innovation-oriented ways of working.
- Posted pay range of $100,000–$125,000 USD, with compensation determined by factors such as experience, skills, certifications, and location.
