The posting

Events Specialist

Remote, with time in our Rosebank, Johannesburg office when needed

__________________________________________________________________

Do you love the moment an event comes together: the sponsorship signed, the stand built, the room full, and the leads flowing? Join SurTech as our Events Specialist and bring the world's leading governance, risk and compliance (GRC) brand to boardrooms in South Africa and across Africa.

About SurTech

SurTech is a Johannesburg-based GRC technology company and Diligent's exclusive partner in South Africa. Since 2018, our team of local specialists has helped boards, CEOs, CFOs, chief audit executives, risk officers and compliance teams in the private and public sectors bring audit, risk, ethics and compliance together on Diligent's platform, which is used by boards and GRC teams around the world. We are a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor with a close-knit, results-driven team.

Why you'll love this role

  • Events that matter. Sponsor industry conferences, run user group events, and plan our own events and webinars for senior executives and board members in South Africa and across Africa.
  • A global brand, across Africa. Work with Diligent's world-class brand and content, and shape how it lands with audiences across the continent.
  • Real ownership. Own every event from start to finish, from negotiating the sponsorship to reporting the return on investment.
  • Creative range. Bring events to life with social media posts, photography and short videos.
  • Trust and autonomy. Manage your own time and priorities, work remotely, and come into our Rosebank office when the role needs you.

The role at a glance

Role: Events Specialist

Reason for vacancy: Resignation (replacement role)

Location: Remote, with Rosebank, Johannesburg office time when needed

Working style: Self-managed, with the autonomy to get things done. No micromanagement.

Environment: Fast-paced and results-driven

What you'll do

  • Conference sponsorships: Liaise and negotiate with industry and association conference organisers on sponsorships, and manage our presence at their events.
  • Own events and webinars: Plan and run our own events and webinars from start to finish: source venues, manage logistics and invitations, create social media posts and source promotional items.
  • Event email marketing: Run pre-event emails that build awareness and drive registrations, and post-event follow-ups. Work with sales leaders to build, draft and run post-event lead follow-ups for our sales development reps.
  • Event leads: Make sure every event lead is captured correctly in our CRM and followed up by sales on time.
  • Social media and content: Create pre- and post-event social media posts, short videos and photography that highlight our participation for Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, using our branded Canva templates.
  • Budgets and ROI: Manage event budgets and report on the return on investment of every event.
  • Presentations: Assist with PowerPoint slide decks for events.
  • Brand: Act as brand custodian and make sure every event touchpoint is on brand.
  • Coordination: Keep every event running smoothly with clear communication between internal teams, suppliers and organisers.

What you'll bring

ESSENTIAL

  • 3 to 5 years' experience in corporate, trade show, or industry or association event and conference management
  • A completed degree, preferably in business or marketing
  • Experience with a CRM system (we use Zoho)
  • Good PowerPoint and Microsoft Office skills
  • A valid driver's licence and your own car, for event set-ups and meetings with suppliers and associations

ADVANTAGEOUS

  • Experience running email campaigns
  • Experience creating social media content in Canva

You'll thrive here if you

  • Are self-motivated and self-managing. You set your own priorities and get things done without being chased
  • Have a sharp eye for detail. You spot the typo, the misaligned logo and the wrong shade of orange
  • Are a confident negotiator who builds strong relationships with organisers, associations and suppliers
  • Plan ahead, manage budgets carefully and meet deadlines
  • Take ownership and enjoy finding creative solutions when plans change
  • Communicate clearly with senior leaders, sales and suppliers

Our values

  • People matter: Respecting each individual and their circumstances.
  • Precision: Two ways to do things: the right way or again.
  • Integrity: Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
  • Candidness: Honest, frank and open communication, without fear.
  • Meritocracy: Where the best people and ideas win.

How to apply

Attention to detail and creativity matter in this role, so let your application show both. Send your CV, a short cover note and details or examples of some events you've delivered (such as photos, attendance, leads or return on investment, etc.) to Tamsin Jatho at [email protected]. Questions are welcome at the same address.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
