The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Security Platform based in Canada.

This is an opportunity to build and operate secure, resilient distributed systems that protect critical infrastructure at global scale. You’ll join an infrastructure and developer tools team focused on secrets management, internal PKI, machine identity, and workload security. Your work will strengthen the foundations that engineering teams rely on to build and deliver products securely and efficiently. You’ll contribute to the design and re-architecture of security systems spanning a global network across hundreds of cities and more than 120 countries. The role combines hands-on software engineering, distributed systems, security implementation, and operational ownership. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers across the organization while helping shape secure architectures and developer experiences. This is a highly technical environment where curiosity, ownership, iteration, and practical security expertise are valued.

Accountabilities

  • Build, operate, and continuously improve secure and resilient distributed systems for secrets and key management across a globally distributed infrastructure.
  • Strengthen and re-architect internal public key infrastructure (PKI), machine identity, and workload identity systems.
  • Develop software and infrastructure that enables engineering teams to securely build, deploy, and operate products at scale.
  • Support the systems you build from an operational perspective, including troubleshooting, incident response, reliability improvements, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond effectively to critical security and infrastructure incidents.
  • Partner with internal engineering teams to help them adopt security services correctly and integrate them into new and existing systems.
  • Provide technical guidance on the architecture and design of new systems and products, ensuring security is incorporated from the outset.
  • Contribute to developer tooling and infrastructure that improves the security, reliability, and efficiency of engineering workflows.
  • Apply practical security engineering principles to implementation rather than focusing primarily on policy, audit, or compliance activities.
  • Share knowledge, technical insights, and improvements with teammates to continuously raise engineering and security standards.
  • Significant professional experience in software development, with a strong background in designing and operating distributed systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Linux/UNIX systems administration and the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure environments.
  • Deep security engineering experience, with an emphasis on practical implementation and building secure systems rather than policy or compliance.
  • Strong understanding of secure infrastructure, system architecture, reliability, and operational best practices.
  • Experience working effectively across engineering teams and communicating complex technical concepts clearly.
  • A strong sense of ownership, curiosity, and willingness to work through ambiguous technical challenges.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and take responsibility for production systems.
  • Experience contributing to open-source security or distributed-systems projects is a plus.
  • Background in cryptography and familiarity with cryptographic primitives or cryptosystems is highly desirable.
  • Experience with hardware security technologies such as HSMs, TPMs, or trusted execution environments, including technologies such as AMD SEV, Intel SGX, or Apple Secure Enclave, is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault, OpenBao, or comparable secrets-management technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with Go and/or Python, particularly in infrastructure or security-focused environments, is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Salt or similar infrastructure automation tooling is an advantage.
  • Ability to use AI-assisted development tools effectively and critically is valued, including willingness to document prompt history when required for technical assignments.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working in an environment that values rapid iteration, continuous learning, practical experimentation, and responsible adoption of emerging technologies.
  • Estimated annual salary of CAD $150,000–$206,000 for Canada-based hires, with compensation adjusted based on work location, experience, and other job-related factors.
  • Eligibility to participate in an equity compensation plan.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits, with offerings that may include medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage.
  • Life and accident insurance, as well as short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Flexible spending and commuter spending accounts, where applicable.
  • Fertility and family-forming benefits.
  • On-demand mental health support and Employee Assistance Program.
  • Global travel medical insurance.
  • Retirement savings programs and employee stock participation opportunities.
  • Flexible paid time off covering vacation and sick leave.
  • Leave programs supporting parental, pregnancy-related, medical, and bereavement needs.
  • Remote-first working environment with distributed collaboration.
  • Opportunities to work on globally scaled infrastructure and technically challenging security systems.
  • An inclusive workplace committed to equal employment opportunity and diverse perspectives.
  • Potential in-person interview requirements at an office or hub for candidates who progress to the offer stage.
  • Depending on the role and assignment process, opportunities to demonstrate AI application-building and AI-assisted engineering skills.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
