The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Security Platform based in the United States.

This is an opportunity to build and operate security-critical infrastructure at exceptional global scale. You’ll join an infrastructure and developer tools team responsible for secrets management, internal PKI, machine identity, and workload identity. Your work will help engineering teams securely develop and operate products across a globally distributed network spanning more than 310 cities and 120 countries. The role combines hands-on software engineering, distributed systems design, security implementation, and operational ownership. You’ll help strengthen and re-architect foundational security systems while advising teams on secure architecture and implementation. You’ll work in a highly technical, collaborative environment where engineers are encouraged to challenge assumptions and solve complex problems creatively. AI-assisted development, continuous learning, and practical experimentation are embraced as tools for increasing engineering velocity and impact.

Accountabilities

  • Design, build, deploy, and operate secure, highly resilient distributed systems for secrets and key management.
  • Strengthen and re-architect internal public key infrastructure (PKI), machine identity, and workload identity systems.
  • Develop infrastructure and developer tools that enable engineering teams to build and deliver products securely and efficiently.
  • Take operational ownership of the systems you build, including monitoring, troubleshooting, reliability improvements, maintenance, and incident response.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to critical infrastructure and security incidents.
  • Support internal developers in adopting security services and integrating them correctly into their applications and systems.
  • Consult on the architecture and design of new systems and products to ensure security is incorporated from the beginning.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the security, resilience, scalability, and usability of internal infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with engineers across multiple teams to establish effective security patterns and engineering practices.
  • Contribute technical knowledge, lessons learned, and improvements to help raise the overall engineering and security capabilities of the organization.
  • Use modern development and AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate problem-solving while maintaining high standards for security, quality, and reliability.
  • Significant professional experience in software development and distributed systems design.
  • Strong Linux/UNIX system administration skills and experience troubleshooting production infrastructure.
  • Deep practical security engineering experience, with an emphasis on implementing secure systems rather than policy, audit, or compliance.
  • Strong understanding of distributed architectures, infrastructure reliability, system security, and operational best practices.
  • Ability to take ownership of complex technical problems and work independently in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to advise engineers and influence technical decisions across teams.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation supporting production systems.
  • Experience contributing to open-source security or distributed-systems projects is a plus.
  • Background in cryptography and the ability to work with cryptosystems at the primitives level is highly desirable.
  • Experience with hardware security technologies such as HSMs, TPMs, or trusted execution environments, including AMD SEV, Intel SGX, or Apple Secure Enclave, is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault, OpenBao, or comparable secrets-management platforms is a plus.
  • Experience with Go and/or Python, particularly for infrastructure or security applications, is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Salt or similar infrastructure automation technologies is an advantage.
  • Comfort working with AI-assisted development tools and critically reviewing AI-generated code, designs, and technical outputs.
  • A builder mindset, strong curiosity, and willingness to challenge established approaches and continuously improve systems.
  • Estimated annual salary of $194,000–$266,000 USD for California-based hires.
  • Estimated annual salary of $168,000–$231,000 USD for Colorado-based hires.
  • Estimated annual salary of $185,000–$254,000 USD for New York, Washington, and Washington DC-based hires.
  • Compensation may vary based on geographic location, experience, skills, and other job-related factors.
  • Eligibility to participate in an equity compensation plan.
  • Medical and prescription drug insurance.
  • Dental and vision insurance.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts and commuter spending benefits.
  • Fertility and family-forming benefits.
  • On-demand mental health support and Employee Assistance Program.
  • Global travel medical insurance.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Life and accident insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Employee stock participation opportunities.
  • Flexible paid time off covering vacation and sick leave.
  • Parental, pregnancy, medical, and bereavement leave programs.
  • Remote/distributed working environment with opportunities to collaborate across a globally distributed engineering organization.
  • Opportunities to work on highly complex security infrastructure operating at global scale.
  • An inclusive workplace committed to equal employment opportunity and diverse perspectives.
  • Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
  • Candidates progressing to the offer stage may be asked to attend an in-person interview at an office or hub.
  • Certain positions or assignments may require authorization to access technology subject to U.S. export control regulations.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
