This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer Manager - Busca e Recomendação based in Brazil.

This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to guide two engineering teams focused on creating a best-in-class search and recommendation experience. You will work closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to translate business priorities into high-quality, scalable technology solutions. The role combines people leadership, technical strategy, engineering excellence, and business impact. You will foster a high-performance environment centered on ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will also help shape engineering strategy, monitor key performance metrics, and ensure teams deliver with both speed and quality. With a flexible, predominantly remote working model, the role offers autonomy while connecting you with a diverse and multidisciplinary technology organization.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and develop two engineering teams, working closely with Product, Design, and Data disciplines to establish priorities, remove obstacles, and drive strong technical and business outcomes.
  • Ensure engineering teams consistently deliver high-quality solutions with the appropriate balance of speed, reliability, scalability, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Build and maintain a high-performance culture based on ownership, collaboration, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the growth and development of team members through regular feedback, career conversations, performance management, and individualized development plans.
  • Strengthen communication and alignment across different squads and stakeholders, ensuring priorities, dependencies, decisions, and expectations remain clear.
  • Track and evolve engineering metrics related to quality, performance, productivity, and delivery effectiveness, using data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to strategic decisions across the broader technology organization, connecting engineering initiatives with customer needs, business priorities, and measurable impact.
  • Help guide technical direction and engineering practices for systems operating at significant scale, with a strong focus on availability, reliability, and sustainable architecture.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, combined with a solid background in software development.
  • Proven experience managing people and leading software engineering teams, with the ability to develop talent and create a strong team culture.
  • Experience working with distributed systems and high-scale, high-availability environments, with a strong understanding of reliability and scalability challenges.
  • Knowledge of software architecture, engineering best practices, and technical decision-making, with the ability to engage effectively in technical discussions.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams involving Product, Design, Data, and other business or technology stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders across different levels of an organization.
  • Data-driven approach to decision-making, with the ability to connect engineering metrics and technical choices to customer outcomes and business impact.
  • Strong ownership, strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Experience with search, recommendation, or relevance systems, including ranking or search engines, is considered a plus.
  • Familiarity with experimentation methodologies such as A/B testing and user-experience optimization is an advantage.
