About BeeX
BeeX is building the world's most advanced Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (HAUVs).
BeeX specialises in providing autonomous robotics solutions to safeguard underwater infrastructure in the maritime, energy and defense sectors, reducing over 90% of carbon emissions. We are pioneering Autonomous Robotics-as-a-Service (ARaaS) on a global scale, supported by decades of operational experiences in harsh waters. With unprecedented efficiency, we strive to provide our customers with a one-point solution for asset integrity management -- protecting assets they value, making sure they stay safe.
Why Join Now The industries we serve need new ways to overcome their current challenges, and BeeX sees the opportunity in delivering exactly that, right now. Creating anything new is very hard, and we need outstanding people.
At BeeX, everyone is dependent; united by enthusiasm for bold innovation. Our multi-disciplinary team thrives in dynamic environments, driving transformative advancements globally. Join us to make a meaningful impact on the world!
You will enjoy this job if you:
- Enjoy achieving deadlines and are always thinking of how to make something better
- Want to work in fast-paced start-up environment, prioritizing growth over short-term gains
- Like to work independently, as well as collaboratively with team members in other sub-teams
- Have a positive learning mindset, and can quickly absorb knowledge to overcome challenges
- Can assess risk and make time-critical decisions/tradeoffs in imperfect scenarios
Your Role
As Test Engineer, you will prove that every HAUV we build is ready for the subsea environment before it reaches a client. Our vehicles combine pressure hulls, thrusters, sensors, embedded electronics, and autonomy software, all of which must work together at depth, undercurrent, and in saltwater. You will design and run the tests that verify this, from component checks through full vehicle trials in tank and open water. Your work turns "it works on the bench" into "it works in the field".
Your Job Scope
HAUV system and subsystem testing
- Plan and run verification and validation tests across HAUV subsystems, including thrusters, pressure hulls, PCB stacks, power systems, sensors, and communications.
- Perform vehicle-level functional tests covering navigation, station-keeping, hovering control, and inspection payload performance.
- Run hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and bench tests with the software and electrical teams to validate firmware and autonomy behaviour.
Pressure, environmental, and endurance testing
- Conduct pressure and leak tests on hulls, enclosures, subsea connectors, and cable penetrators.
- Run environmental and reliability tests such as thermal, vibration, ingress, and long-duration endurance runs.
- Characterise thruster performance, battery endurance, and power consumption under representative loads.
Tank and sea trials
- Plan and run test tank and sea trials, including test procedures, safety briefings, and trial logistics.
- Collect, process, and analyse trial data to assess vehicle performance against specifications.
- Support pre-deployment acceptance testing before vehicles go out on client inspection jobs.
Test infrastructure and documentation
- Design test rigs, fixtures, and automated test setups for repeatable, efficient testing.
- Write test plans, procedures, and reports, and keep clear traceability to requirements.
- Log defects, lead failure investigations, and work with design and manufacturing teams on root cause and fixes.
Desired Qualities
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- 1 – 5 years of experience in test, validation, or systems engineering, ideally on robotics, marine, aerospace, automotive, or other electromechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience with test instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analysers, data loggers, and pressure test equipment.
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Scripting skills for test automation and data analysis (e.g. Python or MATLAB).
- Structured, methodical approach to testing and clear technical reporting.
- Willing to work hands-on in labs, test tanks, and at sea, including occasional early starts or longer field days.
- Good to Have
- Experience testing ROVs, AUVs, USVs, or other marine or subsea systems.
- Familiarity with ROS, embedded systems, or control system tuning.
- Knowledge of sensors used in underwater robotics, such as DVL, IMU, sonar, cameras, and depth sensors.
- Experience with HIL setups or test automation frameworks.
- Relevant sea survival or offshore safety certification, or willingness to obtain it.
Remuneration Package
- Market competitive salary
- Growth opportunities that align with your direct ability in helping the company, rather than an arbitrary corporate ladder
- Healthcare support
- Special access to industry events
- Well-stocked pantry with nice snacks
- Support for skills upgrading / learning credits
