WE ARE HIRING: Compliance Officer

Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Compliance Officer to support the Group Compliance function by managing compliance-related activities, reviewing compliance matters, supporting governance initiatives, and ensuring adherence to global compliance standards.

This role is responsible for assisting with compliance programme implementation, sanctions-related assessments, corporate communications approvals, risk mitigation initiatives, and maintaining compliance documentation across global operations. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, legal advisors, service providers, and management to support a strong culture of compliance and ethical business practices.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance Operations & Risk Management

  • Liaise with local and international stakeholders on compliance-related matters.
  • Review compliance queries and support decision-making relating to business transactions and compliance risks.
  • Assist in interpreting global compliance requirements and sanctions-related matters.
  • Support risk mitigation efforts and communicate areas of concern to management.
  • Participate in projects related to compliance programme implementation and enhancement.
  • Assist with corporate governance initiatives and ethical business practices.

Compliance Programme Support

  • Support the implementation and ongoing development of the Group Compliance Programme.
  • Assist with compliance monitoring activities and policy adherence initiatives.
  • Contribute to compliance awareness and visibility programmes throughout the organization.
  • Support training-related initiatives and distribution of compliance training results.
  • Assist with compliance communications and internal engagement activities.

Documentation & Administration

  • Maintain and manage compliance documentation, records, and filing systems.
  • Ensure compliance folders, databases, and records remain accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain structured documentation relating to compliance reviews, approvals, and communications.
  • Support administrative activities related to compliance operations.

Stakeholder & External Coordination

  • Liaise with external lawyers, consultants, and service providers when specialist guidance is required.
  • Coordinate with internal departments regarding compliance and risk management requirements.
  • Work closely with Legal, Treasury, Compliance, and operational teams to support business objectives while managing risk exposure.
  • Support corporate communication approvals and related compliance reviews.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes and operational efficiency.
  • Recommend improvements and support innovative approaches within the compliance function.
  • Contribute ideas to strengthen compliance systems, documentation, and reporting practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience within Compliance, Legal, Risk Management, Corporate Governance, or a related function will be advantageous.
  • Professional qualifications in Compliance, Legal Studies, Corporate Governance, or Company Secretarial Practice will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of global sanctions and international compliance frameworks will be beneficial.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong business correspondence and technical writing abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of ethics, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong administrative and documentation management skills.
